I've dated a lot of girls in my younger days. Most of which were shorter than me. I'm 5'5'' so girls I've dated were usually between 4'11'' and 5'4''. Despite this, every girl I've ever dated has always had an abnormally tall father, each clearing 6' easily. My current gf's father is 6'7'' and she is 5'4''. While they have always been generally nice to me, I have always felt that they were sizing me up. I think it's normal for fathers to test out the physical capabilities of their daughter's boyfriends, such as having them do chores around the house. I don't agree with feminism, but one article I read once made a good point that "fathers tend to bargain with their daughters boyfriends over their sexuality" which I think is a leftover tradition from the days women were basically sold off to their husbands. I think Fathers are just naturally inspired to compare themselves to their daughter's boyfriends so they can determine whether or not he's worthy of the joy of taking care of her, and giving her the life she wants, etc.
That being said, I've always felt disadvantaged in these situations. Taller people are seen as better, more capable people, and a father judging a daughter's boyfriend will most definitely look at height first. Even if a guy didn't lift weights or was in any kind of good shape, height is seen first. A skinny tall man is seen as better than a skinny short man, etc. I feel like the only way to be appealing is to be the most physically fit, and well off short guy you can, but even then we're still short. I'll never forget that one news broadcast with the men lined up, and the women said they'd only date the short men if all the others were murderers.
Thankfully I've never been threatened by any of my girlfriends' fathers over the years, and I have worked hard to earn respect from each of them, but the thought was always in my mind. He would prefer his daughter with a taller man. They'd never admit it outloud, but I could see it in their eyes. I've never mentioned these thoughts anywhere else because the typical response is "it's all in your head, little man." Maybe it is, but I feel like my accounts are probably just one of many.
