For those of you who are intelligent enough to stay away from Reddit, I'm going to provide you with an update on how the past few months have gone.
As Valorzeal33 spoke of in this thread r/HeightDiscrimination was shutdown. The crazy thing about it is you can still read the forum, but they banned Valorzeal's user account, which effectively makes the sub abandoned. You can't post, and you can't contact anyone affiliated with the forum. He didn't say anything even remotely inflammatory, so his account was banned for no reason.
In addition, r/shorttroubles was shutdown as well. It was just as tame as r/heightdiscrimination, and discussed many harmless topics that weren't even related to heightism. Even so, it was completely deleted.
So, the other night, I created r/ShortTruth. I worked diligently writing rules that would adhere to Reddit's content policy. The rules outlawed body shaming, fighting hatred with hatred, inflammatory comments, user arguments that were just ad-hominems, prejudice disguised as evo-psych, prejudice against all marginalized groups, etc. The rules even prevented men from using the "short men have it worse" talking point to diminish the experiences of short women. Everyone was welcome on the forum, and literally Rule #1 was to adhere to the entirety of Reddit's Content Policy.
THE SUB DIDN'T EVEN LAST 48 HOURS BEFORE IT WAS BANNED
It only had five subscribers at the time, and I was the only one who posted, except for one comment that said to make sure we stayed active as mods to make sure no one gets out of line. Every post, except one, was meta stuff about the rules, flair, intro to the sub etc. I was even nice enough not to name any names regarding why r/short is a disaster area. The one post that wasn't about the forum itself was a crosspost from r/ukraine of a woman at a rally in Washington DC who has holding a sign mocking Putin's height. Several other subs(including both r/short and r/tall) had cross-posted it, and it is still up on both subs. So, we did absolutely nothing wrong, and we're banned before we ever got started.
It's so wild that subs with less than ten active users(and in my sub's case, only one active user) are somehow on Reddit's radar enough to get banned. This absolutely is not random and is evidence that we're being targeted. The explanation I got when I tried to visit Short Truth was "this sub has been banned because it is similar in purpose to another quarantined or banned sub." So, basically, they've decided that all subs making even somewhat of an honest effort to address heightism(against short men) are lumped together and instantly banned. They see us as no different than incels, redpillers, etc., even though all of the short man subs forbid the type of rhetoric those subs allowed. I did everything I could to present the sub in a way that would work with Reddit's customs and rules, but that wasn't good enough. At this point, it can be definitively said that Reddit flat-out just does not want short men discussing heightism....period. R/short gets away with it for the time being, I guess because they cater to women and Garmins, but the mods there have already been cracking down on heightism discussion, so I would expect a full-on ban or a silent ban on all heightism discussion in the near future.
There's not much left for us to do on Reddit, unless we want to be a thorn in r/short's side by posting the truth there(and they'll just ban us if we do) or unless we want to comment on heightism discussions elsewhere on Reddit(and that'll probably just get our account banned like Valorzeal's)
We have no options at this point but to post on private message boards like this one. LittleBoyGB keeps hounding me to move this form to Xenforo, and I'm not against a fresh start on a site with more functionality, but I'm just not wanting to do all of that work when no matter where we post, the forum is still going to be dead. We don't have the numbers to really get things popping like so many of the other groups that got banned from Reddit, and it looks like even on large sites like Reddit, there are only 3-5 short men at a time who want to discuss heightism with any regularity. That goes for Twitter as well.
I don't know. What do you guys think? I guess for heightism news in the next few days, we can post here, but I want to hear what everyone thinks we should do as a more permanent solution.
