Short Guy Gets Treated To A Dish of Double Standards

And just as I predicted, the "Put Shorty Back In His Place" extravaganza begins.

We have two short guys who are saying that he should just be quiet and cower away in silence.

1) "This is something I used to do as well. It's obvious that you're insecure about your height. Did he deserve it? Probably. Was it necessary to call him out? No, not really. You're going to be called short regardless either he's your friend or not.If he talks about your height as an insult rather than playfulness. Slowly disconnect from him."

2) "Striking back at his physical imperfections in retaliation for targeting your height represents a game we short dudes just can't win in the court of public opinion. Next time, ignore it and fade-out disconnect from him instead."

At a bare minimum, at-least these two know that we lose in the court of opinion, so I'll give credit to both of them for not denying that heightism exists. However, the first guy says "It's obvious that you're insecure about your height." Why is it insecurity for OP to return what was given to him? Like OP said, this has happened on multiple occasions with this same taller, thus, why is he labeled as insecure and the taller gets to be a loose cannon?


And then, of course, we have a female who has rushed to the aid...of the taller.

And, boom, the person who asked the question was accused of homophobia, although he didn't say or even imply that he perceives gay people as inferior. Another time, someone used the word "Jew" in a neutral way and in a neutral sentence. That person was quickly accused of anti-Semitism."

Notice how she wants to give this taller the benefit of the doubt by looking for a way to declare him innocent by using semantics in-regard to context, exact wording, etc. She goes onto say "Merely pointing-out in a neutral factual way that you are short would not be heightist." There is almost no circumstance where pointing-out that a male is short is neutral. It is always done in a mocking or hateful manner, is done to voice displeasure, or in this case, a taller did so to make himself look powerful to people at a social gathering. It is universally understood that being short as a man is negative, thus, forgive us if we don't give the benefit of the doubt in every circumstance like this woman who has come to defend talls and probably got turned-on by the thought of a tall mocking a short man.

She also stated "Sometimes, I notice that people are totally oversensitive and read hatred into the regular statements."

Oh, yeah. OP's totally oversensitive for not praising a taller for bringing-up his height every time they are in mixed company. This woman is the product of a society that is indoctrinated to believe that short men should just "shut up and take it" every time they are mocked and degraded in an aggressive manner, so of course, she would rush to put this short guy back in his place. I'll bet she would change her tune if a woman defended herself after having her breasts commented on multiple times by the same person, but of course, a short man who defends himself is "oversensitive" and we have to give the taller every benefit of the doubt, even though he has made this same type of comment on numerous occasions.

And this guy almost gets it.

You're one friend is a piece of shit for mocking your height, and while I don't discredit you for doing what you did - you're not likely going to labeled with the dreaded "napoleon complex" and will be the go-to insult whenever you piss one of them off since they know you're insecure about it.This will be met with controversy, but don't make friends with tall people. They will use you for their own gain, and as they already demonstrated won't respect you."

Once again, what is with this assumption that OP is "insecure" for defending himself after multiple height comments in mixed company? A tall man is always allowed to defend himself and gets credit for "not taking shit from anyone," but a short man is supposed to just swallow it and sit down in the corner. I won't make a blanket statement such as "don't make friends with tall people," but I will say to be cognizant of any red flags and to make sure you understand how most tallers do keep your height as an ace in the hole if they ever feel the need to build their own social standing by crushing someone else. Another thing I'd like to say is that if you do befriend talls, don't be surprised if some random tall makes disparaging remarks about you, and after you return fire, your tall friends take the side of the tall stranger. In the past, I experienced that personally, so just be ready for it if you're in public with talls. Tall guys have an extremely pronounced camaraderie with one another, and short men aren't invited into their fraternity.
