It is now February, 2017, and we still don't have a group of tight-knit allies to help us move the dialogue forward. Ever since anti-heightism efforts have began, this cause has been riddled with part-timers, people who run away after the initial sticker shock, people who fight diligently then give-up when they see the insurmountable obstacles and lack of support, insecure Garmins who choose to attack those who address heightism instead of heightism itself, people who get sick of arguing in the same circles without any progress, weak-minded people who can't handle ugly truths and opt for pseudo-positivity, and naive people who don't comprehend how the sociological forces in the world impact their place in the world. I fully understand why people give-up, and I've even contemplated it myself a few times. Pursuing this cause can be absolutely maddening. We are deprived of a voice, are put in catch-all stereotypes and stigmas that are used by silence our efforts, are attacked by the very people we are attempting to defend, are always on the losing end of pseudoscience and biases. There's not much glory in pursuing this cause, and the fact that heightism is worsening is making our efforts even more difficult. With all of that being said, I totally understand why people run for the hills at some point. This stuff isn't for the faint-of-heart.
However, if even 25% of the people who flew the coop would come back and offer even a sliver of effort and support, this cause would feel more like a cohesive community, instead of a temporary stopping ground where only a few core participants can be relied upon to address all of the related issues. If even four or five of the people who watch(and suffer) in silence would put forth the least amount of effort, those of us who do stick-around in this cause wouldn't be spread so thin, and we'd be energized to create a wider array of content, and would be able to focus on moving things forward instead of chasing our tails. Every minor piece of effort helps. There's no reason that those of us who pursue this issue should receive more hate mail and uncreative trolling than we do support. At a bare minimum, let us know you're out there. You don't have to write a thesis, just email, tweet, message, or whatever other medium you choose to say "Hey. I feel you on these issues." The fact that the few of us who address heightism as full-timers are the only ones ever speaking leaves the feeling that we are screaming into the woods and no one is listening. The last thing heightists want is for us to support each other, so by remaining silent, all you're doing is making sure that we don't have any momentum. I know. It's awful seeing those of us who speak out getting slaughtered with the same puns, snide remarks, straw man arguments, and flawed logic from the unwashed masses, but it's not really too much to ask for you to submit some feedback, even if done so privately through message, email, etc. Seriously folks, your silence is even more jarring than the unfiltered idiocy we encounter from heightists and the know-it-alls who want to shout us down when they aren't aware of any of that data or studies surrounding heightism. It's time to stop being afraid of your own shadow. You've been beaten into such a state of subservience that you won't even speak about this issue with the few people in the entire world who have made the effort to understand all facets of these issues. Think about that for a second. Now's not the time to be timid and bow to the pressure put on you by society to just "shut up and take it."
I hope to hear from more of you in the near future. I promise you, it wouldn't take many more allies for us to have something really special, so every bit of dialogue and participation moves us in the right direction.
