Heightism and appearance based discrimination are widely acceptable forms of discrimination.
i think that the only way for short people and people negatively impacted by appearance based discrimination is to unite.
However i think that there are several reasons why short people dont unite.
I think a lot of short people dont unite is because they have internalize heightism. Heightism negatively impacted every part of a persons life. They are also misrepresented and underepresented in the media. SO its very understandable as to why short people believe that they are indeed ''genetically inferior'' and not want to fight back. But i think its a lie. Short people are not inferior. And I think there isnt anything wrong with being short. Whats wrong is the prejudice against short people. I want to remind short people who believe they are'' genetically inferior'' that its the same lie and prejudice that was said for every marginalized and minority group. Minority groups such as women, people with mental disabilities, people with physical disabilities, homosexuals, and people of color were once severely discriminated against but they were able to NOT believe these lies and overcame them.
Some short people believe that they are genetically inferior because they arent as strong as tall people. Again this is another lie. Not every tall person is physically strong. There are short men and women who are more stronger than tall people. And there are physical benefits to being short. Short people on average are said to live longer, stay more youthful, and in sports like gymnastics and sprinting being short is an advantage.
Other reasons why I think short people dont unite is because they are in denial. A lot of short people dont want to believe that heightism exists. Its really hard to believe that heightism exists when tall people dont acknowledge that HEIGHT MATTERS. Even though its right in front of our faces everday. I believe the reason why people want to deny heightism especially tall people because being tall Is a privelege. ANd the best way to keep people down is to pretend that no privelege exists. Its definitely not an easy reality to realize how a persons height and appearance has played an important role on how they are being treated. By now people should know that people are indeed treated by their appearance..People who are considered attractive or average to taller height are indeed treated with more respect and are given more advantages. And its a well documented fact.
Furhtermore some short people know that heightism exist but have chosen to align themselves with tall people. They are purpsoedly denying the realities of heightism because they desperately want to fit in..or they believe that no one will take short people seriously when they talk about heightism. It is very true that when short people do mention heightism..there is a great deal of denial, and mockery and backlash by short people and people who are not considered short. But I would encourage short people to develop a thick skin and realize that they are doing that to discourage you and to make you feel bad about yourself.
In conclusion, the cliche is ..the first step to overcoming a problem is to admit there is a problem. Right now I think thats the first task in overcoming height discrimination is to admit that a problem exist. People do judge and treat people by appearance. It wasnt right before and still isnt right.
