We only have a limited smattering of participants on this forum, every one of which brings something unique to the table. On weeks when this place gets numerous posts, we start building a momentum. We get a lot more visitors to the site, and seem to get more registrations when we are active. However, there are only seven-to-eight or so core posters when we have thirty-seven members. Thirty-seven is not a great number by internet standards, but if half of those posters participated regularly, this place would be a vibrant community of truth and reason. In addition to the voiceless members, we have dozens of guests. There has been about two posts in that last week here, yet, we still have had seventy-five guests in the past day, none of which decided to say anything. We also have an issue where people take the first step in registering for an account, then, disappearing into the wind. I feel like this happens for a few reasons. One of the reasons is the lack of activity here. People want to be part of forums that are active and engage large numbers of people. This explains why people will post on the complete lackluster Garmin-fest at r/short, but will come here at-best to browse. This is kind of a self-perpetuating issue though because people don't want to post in places that have scant participation, yet, if those people who are holding back would post, this forum would be extremely active. This is the problem with us tackling an issue that society has a weird ironic duality of either ignoring or celebrating, depending on the situation. Height-aware short people don't want to throw themselves into such a mess, thus, they opt for watered-down half-assery like occurs at r/short, just because they'd rather be marginalized with the herd than to be further marginalized with those who are breaking from the herd. Until we figure-out a way to get more of the lurkers and faithful herd members to become part of this place, we're going to continue to deal with the quagmire of receiving no participation because no one's participating. There are plenty of enlightened short people out there, and if we can ever get a minor surge of them coming this way, this forum will blossom into a continuous dialogue and a place to strategize our next moves.
On the positive side, I really do love the contributions we get on this forum. All of you are the exact remedy for what ails short people, and every time I see that there are new forum posts, I know that I'm going to have my day brightened by someone who sees the world for what it truly is. In this chaotic, backward society, it's great when sanity gets restored from time-to-time. Like George Orwell said
"He was a lonely ghost uttering a truth that nobody would ever hear. But so long as he uttered it, in some obscure way the continuity was not broken. It was not by making yourself heard but by staying sane that you carried on the human heritage"
"Staying sane" is our job as people who aren't hypnotized by the status-quo. When people try to tell us that heightism doesn't exist, and their reasoning behind believing heightism is fictitious is heightist itself, they're telling us to be voluntarily insane. When people deprive us of the right to defend ourselves in the same way other individuals and groups do, and expect us to just "shut up and take it," they are asking us to swallow truths and develop cognitive dissonance and insanity. With all of this considered, every one who speaks the truth about heightism is considering the human heritage of being sane, and is stopping a cycle of lies, deceit, hatred, and hypocrisy. Our society should not advocate for lies, hatred, and hypocrisy to continue because these maladies have a ripple effect that deprive all of us from the sane society that we should all want to live-in. Those of you who post there totally understand that, and hopefully, some of the lurkers and other non-participants will one day understand that as well. We're not asking much, we just want people to participate. Hopefully, one day, short people will come to a collective agreement that their voices are worthy of being heard.
