The moderator Bikerbats at r/short has banned a user over, imo, an innocent honest post regarding heightism. The comment by user "TheFerociousFox" stated:
"You may not necessarily be lying, however there is a limit to the amount of anecdotes I am willing to believe. I'd rather base my beliefs on facts, and all the facts show that being short significantly hinders you in life. You may be different but most people are not happy being the butt of jokes, being unattractive to women, earning less, being more likely to be depressed and suicidal and not being taken seriously. If you have any credibility then there is no way you can argue against these points. Yeah, being short may have moulded you and made you who you are, but that's beside the point. Because you can never know how your life would be turned out; had you not been short, you may have had a much better life. But all of these are ifs. This is why it is important to base beliefs on facts. And all the facts point to shortness as a negative. I admire what you are doing, trying to help the young men in this sub, however it is dangerous to feed these young men with false hope. I hope I don't come across as some toxic troll, as that isnt my intention."
This user was just giving their honest opinion on the matter, and not "trolling." But, the moderator "Bikerbats" couldn't have a user give an opinion on heightism without said user making light of the situation with "fit in small spaces" jokes or fake small tough guy "machismo" encouragement. He instead posted this:
"I don't believe for a second that it isn't your intention. Let's look at some quotes from you in this sub shall we? I won't quote anything above, because it's already there for everyone to read.
5 (-2 because of lack of height).
Every time I try to argue that being a short man ruins your life I'm met by waves of people telling me otherwise.
I believe that it is best to accept your height, however, some of you guys are just plain delusional. It's is a FACT that being a short man is a severe disadvantage in society. You are less attractive, weaker, less likely yo be seen as a leader and are overall perceived as a weak person.
So yeah, you're exactly the kind of troll (average height no less) I'm getting rid of. Goodbye, don't come back."
This is what r/short has sadly become. Short staure guys or anyone for that matter, can't have an open honest discussion about the issues of being small stature without being banned. I understand not wanting negative toxic users i.e. "incels", but this post by the user above wasn't that imho.
Hopefully more men affected by heightism or individuals who really want to get this issue out, stop by this forum and we can have real discussions, dialogue, and support for one another, without fear of being banned.
