I saw a post by GA that it's taboo for a man to say he's shorter than 5'6" out loud, and even really short guys will round up to that height. The answer to this is easy. It's not about how tall a man is compared to women. It's about how tall he is compared to other men. That's why 5'6" seems to be a "magic number" for short guys. Guys shorter than that always round up to 5'6".
It's currently a cultural dividing line between being a "lesser" man, and being perceived as completely non-masculine. There are a fair number of guys under 5'6" in the world, but I've never seen one claim to be shorter than 5'6" out loud (even if they clearly are) and I've NEVER heard a woman include men shorter than 5'6" in their potential dating pool. Even if she is 4'11".
Don't get me wrong. I've seen couples where the guy is shorter than 5'6". But the woman is likely to verbalized her SO's height as "about 5'6".
tldr - we are socialized to think it's deeply shameful to be shorter than 5'6" and male. And male height is judged solely against other males.I'm wondering what happens when 5'5" and under guys claim their actual height, and why that number is the cutoff?

I’ve noticed this, too. I think it would truly help us short men feel so much better if the minimum male height is about 4’0”. It would completely change our lifestyles, and there would be absolutely no need for HGH or leg lengthening.
Another thing I noticed is it seems like a lot of men shorter than 5’6” are hiding a whole lot more than usual. Probably due to them lying about their heights and don’t want to be called out for it. I’ve seen men smaller than me (I’m 5’6”) and it always boggles my mind that I’m not even the smallest person in the room, because I’ve always been seen a bit small.
I have seen a couple of men a foot shorter than me. It gets me every time, because it’s a rare thing to see. They even look well proportioned for their heights, which is why I think about 4 ft height seems to be perfectly fine for men.
Tall guys also lie about their heights being two or three inches smaller, because they don’t want to be seen as freaks. I asked a lady in the library on what is the tallest height she has seen, and she said 6’2”. That’s bullshit, because I’ve seen hundreds of guys way taller than 6’2” around here. There are guys who are 6’7” but probably claim to be 6’2” to avoid rumors about his tallness.

Welcome to the forum! It's nice to have another member as we only have 3 contributing members, because short men would rather stay hidden than discuss heightism, and police other people who do want to. We're not here to discuss what's the perfect height and talk about LL and grow taller methods, we're here to discuss the idea that tall is better than short and heightism, those are artificial solutions to the problem which is that taller is better, I'm just letting you know so we can stay on topic. I agree it's because of lying, on paper 5'5" looks tiny, but the point is there is clearly bigotry because by short people mean 5'6"-5'8", men under that face the most discrimination and it shows how being too short is unacceptable. The point of the post was that whenever people/ women talk about short men, they round up and that for some reason 5'6" is seen as the minimum socially acceptable height.

Yeah, it's weird. 5'6"-5'8" guys are mocked but still human. Once a man is shorter than that, he's treated like something less than human. Take 5'2 UFC champ Demetrious Johnson for example. I think if he was at least the height of Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather, he'd be more popular than he is now.
Perhaps it's because 5'6 is still only 3 or 4 inches shorter than average, but more likely, I think once you're the same or below the average female height (around 5'4), that's when the real shit starts. The cardinal rule in life is that a man must always be taller than a woman, otherwise he is to be ridiculed. Guys claim 5'6 because it's still taller than most girls.
