So since I realized as a long time member I've never given my intro, I'm posting this to finally show what lead me to join the fight. When I was in middle school, I was in the 10th percentile, and I got called "little kid" and people would come up to me and say "you're small". I watched the height and dating segment, and I remember being devastated and not knowing what to make of it. I Asked someone how tall they were and they said "taller than you" but added no offense to "soften" the jab. soneone said I "needed to drink milk because I'm like the shortest kid in school. I also was called "invisible" and ignored a lot, but im sure that had nothing to do with height (/s). One guy said a tall girl was "out of my league" not mentioning height but it obviously was a big factor in his reasoning.Freshmen year of highschool I brought up height asking if I was short because I wasn't aware of how people would see me as insecure, and people would say I was short despite being average, but that's not as important. A girl told me someone called me short and I said "I don't care", which lead to her calling me cool because that made me one of the good ones probably. Senior year of high school, I was 5'8" and my 5'11" friend would relentlessly call me short, saying things like "why do you look so short today" "how do you reach things" and pass it off as "you're not that short I'm joking". He also would ask people if they thought I was short. I am now a sophomore in college, and the only experience I have had Was being called "little man", but I am very close to average as you know.People definitely saw me as short at 5'8", but here we know tall short guys face some of it too, but anyway those are my encounters.

That’s insane. I didn’t experience that much heightism, and I’ve always been 5’6”. To be fair, most of my friends were around my height or shorter.
It looks like you’re still growing, because you’re 19 going on 20 and you’re going up from 5’8” to 5’9”. If you stick around to fight heightism even if you’re in 5’10” range, that would be cool.
I still can’t believe how much heightism you experienced at that height. Just wow. If you experienced this, then imagine the plight that a 5’0” has to endure right now in 2017.

I was in the same percentile as a 5'6" male, so I certainly felt the sting, my school was full of really tall kids, so that may be why. Actually, if you look through the just another day on the job thread, HR has way more stories than what I had, but he's 5'4" so it's even worse. I wonder how many height jokes I would get if I ended up 5'6". At 5'8" it was only one person, but if I had been objectively short It probably would have been a number of people that made remarks. Still, it's crazy how people think it's ok to insult people who are "not that short", and how many comments the short statured get in general. But why would they hold back on a group they have 0 respect for?

My goodness that's aweful. Not surprised but still amazes me how people say things like that to us short men.
