answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091211062322AANKnBQ On yahoo answers, this guy got ripped apart and accused of having SMS for simply asking if he was tall, and the women notoriously labeled him. It seems like even if a short man tries to get the slightest bit of privilege, people have to throw that label out. I'll admit, he does act jealous of tall men and disses them, but they didn't have to stigmatize him like that.

That's a great find! You hit the nail on the head as to what's going-on in that thread. When people see a short man even trying to believe that he isn't short, it's time to circle the wagons and put him directly back in his place. As you pointed-out, he committed the grave sin of framing tall men in a negative light, and absolutely no one is going to tolerate that from a short man. As far as OP goes, if he's not a troll, he's absolutely delusional if he thinks 5'6 isn't short for a male. Whether he's trolling or not though, there are a lot of short men who will use as many mental gymnastics as possible to convince themselves that they're not short, so the discussion is valid regardless. Notice how a large percentage of the commenters were young boys and girls in their mid-teens who already know exactly how to put a short man in his place. Heightism is a time-honored tradition that gets passed along through the generations, and it looks like each generation is perfecting the artform more so than the last one.

Here are some of the best of the worst comments
This one is rated as the "best answer"
"Someones got short man syndrome."
Now, some of the others
"5'6 is very short for a man, if your girlfriend is happy with your height its because she is 5'2 or under. Every girl want a man that is at leAst 5 inchs taller but i know many girls under 5'3 that wish for a guy at least 6ft. I am 5'5 and my bf is 5'9 which is totally short to me. I wear heels and im his height. Very few women actually LIKE short men. Most girls will settle for a short guy with a nice body if they cant get what they want but who DOESNT want a tall hot guy!? I think you consider tall guys giants because you are like..a midget(for a man). Its sooo funny, short guy are either always in denial and think they are macho or suuuper insecure. Aww"
"Im a 14 year old girl and im 5,6. You are a very short guy, which is kinda unattractive. I want a guy who is nice and strong and tall, not my hight. 6'2 is perfect"
"The average height for a male is 5'10". I can not stand short guys, often because they have 'little man syndrome." try to keeps yours in check!"
"You're short.. the average american male is 5'9. Average montenegrin male is 6'2 or 3. F***ing a short guy is like f***ing a little kid, sorry."
"Shut your mouth you're veryyyyy short for a guy i Am 14 and i am 5ft9 so stop being so selfconfident cz there is nothing To be confident about"
"5'6 is dwarf-ish for a guy. esp when ur 23. im a girl and i was 5'6 when i was 14. LMAO. okay, that was mean *oops*"

I agree with everything you said. When I was 4'7" at 12 (the equivalent of a 5'6" adult male) I tried to convince myself I wasn't short and I wouldn't touch heightism with a 1000 foot pole. Even at 5'9" I would get some flak for asking if I was tall, but if you're objectively short they won't go easy on you for bringing it up. Teens tend to belive in SMS more, but adults aren't too far behind. If a black guy had posted about being mixed I doubt people would call him out, like Joe would say. I think even if a 5'10" guy tried to steal tall privilege they would still be somewhat disingenious to him, so this guy would get no sympathy.

That's what happens when you raise a whole generation on Shrek. Even before a short man has ever done anything to them, just from viewing a film like that, they learn to watch out for those nasty short meanies.
