I look even shorter due to horrible shorts I wore today. They're bulky as hell with big pockets everywhere. God, I hate those shorts. Couldn't help but noticed that many stores and malls display unrealistic male body and size of mannequins. That's me standing next to them, and I stand 5'6". I see those gigantic WWE wrestler scale of male mannequins. They look like they only belong in Big and Tall stores, but they decided to put a bunch of them in regular retail stores, then place the smaller male mannequins for children aisles. You see a lot of women complain about unrealistic female body image about female mannequins, and rightly so, but I'm so surprised that not a lot of men mentioned anything about impossible standards in the male versions everywhere else, like action figures and mannequins. Big muscles, 6'3" tall, crazy broad shoulders, very tiny waists, abs, arms the size of 18" when they aren't even flexed. While I understand that female's body image is cruel, but the image is NOT right about the male's. I mean, seriously, that's ME in the picture standing right next to them, and these mannequins are taller than me even without heads! These things are gigantic! They're basically Khali from WWE and I'm Rey Mysterio (FYI, Rey stands 5'2"). I feel very inadequate standing/walking by these damn things, and I believe a lot of us short men feel the same. I mean, yes, there are large men like that, but not with that kind of tiny stomach. Why didn't they make smaller scale male dummies? They would rather go all out by spending extra money on these gigantic things. A lot of tall men's bodies do not look like that. If they're that big, then their bellies look bigger along with them. The size of these muscles with small waist at that height would require a tall one to work three times harder in the gym AND take steroids plus INTENSE weight loss. Jacked at 9% body fat. Tall people struggle at growing muscles at that kind of height, so I call these mannequins blatantly disrespectful to men everywhere, especially disrespectful to short men. If the male mannequins aren't the muscular type, they're ALWAYS 6'0 ft or taller. The female mannequins usually stand at my height, 5'6", or taller. I do not remember seeing a 4'5" tall female mannequin, and I'm not talking about the little girl, I'm talking about real women who are short with fully developed womanly parts. They don't even sell shoes size 5 for my gf. Very hard to find clothes to fit her. What do you think about the male mannequins? They ever bother you when you see them in the stores?

What does this have to do with heightism? Also why does it matter if you look shorter? No need to self deprecate. It is a point that these mannequins make people expect men to be very tall, because they are frankly nba player sized like you said, but what does muscles and size and you taking a picture with mannequins really have to do with heightism, no offense at all.

It is a point that these mannequins make people expect men to be very tall, because they are frankly nba player sized like you said, but what does muscles and size and you taking a picture with mannequins really have to do with heightism, no offense at all. In order to fight heightism, you must make short men realize that heightism exists. You don't do this, then a lot of short men aren't going to notice heightism. Because of that, I'm trying to dig deeper. "Why does it matter if you look shorter?" It matters the same way that skin tone matters. People SAY we should look past skin tones, but that's impossible. Racism exists because it's something you cannot change. I was standing there by the dummies as a biomarker for short men. At least, I'm trying to do something to push heightism. Finally decided to look into your profile, oops, I can't. What if you're a tall female with a secret heightist mentality? I'll never know! Short men need to open their eyes! They're against us everywhere. Ever think about life sized cardboards? Probably not Luro2020. "No need to self deprecate" This is just height differences, but they make it SO CLEAR that taller is just better since they have tall male dummies in almost every retail stores, and I'm right here disagreeing with that mentality. That's not self depreciation. These male dummies are causing unrealistic expectations. "... a point that these mannequins make people expect men to be very tall." THESE mannequins are in nearly every retail clothing store. Because of this, people expect men to be at least 6 ft or taller. Of course I feel inadequate, but I didn't "deprecate" myself. Seeing to it that there are literally zero short male dummies, then of course, I can't help but feel inadequate. They imply that it's impossible to be a man whose height that starts at 5. No one ever took a picture of a short man standing by those tall dummies. Maybe because someone like you would try to embarrass them and then tell them it's a waste of time. Assuming you're a short man (I don't even know if you're really a short man; what if you're a tall one that denies everything), guess what other people think of you when you walk by those things... Yeah, they would think you're inferior. Not sure if it's my shorts, or my height, but I have noticed some people were trying to hide their laughs when I had this picture taken. Again, im doing this a biomarker for short men out there. It actually took guts to do that.

That's a straw man, I've posted here for months and anybody knows I've been fighting alongside short men, also the height of the spokesperson is unimportant if they understand heightism. And I am under 6 feet but not super short anyway so I don't face discrimination, but my height is irrelevant because I still have demonstrated numerous times I understand how to fight heightism . Just because I don't have an account doesn't mean I haven't sided along heightism, hell if you look further you'll see I actually did a research paper on it. The focal point of heightism is how short men are treated, not how mannequins make men under 6 feet seem short or about how you feel short compared to mannequins, and you're right it wasn't really self deprecation but the "shortness" is irrelevant, short being a negative concept is what we're trying to focus on not how you feel compared to mannequins or tall unrealistic dolls.

Also i've done as much as to fight heightism. Me not getting why you posted mannequins doesn't mean ill "embarrass them", it's because i simply didnt understand how its a biomarker. Look around this forum before you accuse me of doing nothing for heightism, and it only takes courage on anti heightism sites to post pics like that, no one here is going to criticize you we will offer our opinion and how it relates to heightism because this is a heightism forum.

toughlimbs makes a very good point because mannequins and other representations of the female body get a tremendous amount of scrutiny, but representations of the male body, which are equally as difficult to mirror aren't even given a second thought. The fact that short men are disqualified from meeting this standard from the get-go makes extra impact in this world where men's issues aren't taken seriously, and where short men are rejected socially and romantically as a badge of honor. I've never heard anyone discuss male mannequins, so it's good that toughlimbs brought this to our attention, and even went so far as to use himself as an example to show the contrast.
As far as Luro goes, I think he's done enough to where we owe him the courtesy of not assuming that he's a taller or a woman in disguise. I don't blame toughlimbs for snapping back because Luro totally disregarded a post that he worked hard to put together, but I'll also say that Luro hasn't done anything where we should doubt his validity.
Neither of you are "in the doghouse" for anything that was posted here, but let's try to work together as much as possible. A tremendous problem within the anti-heightism world is the people who participate have many rifts and can't ultimately work together. This all started before any of us were onboard, and it has carried forward, so let's try to wipe the slate clean. We need to try to establish better relations going forward because we'll have more of a group dynamic, and maybe even some legitimate friendships will form. Anyway, this was a legit post because heightism is definitely a part of the story regarding impossible body standards that encompass the image of "the ideal male."

Thank you, guys. We need to support each other and keep pushing this to heightist people to make them feel uncomfortable. This is so important to discuss, because these blatant dummies are being displayed all over in many places and nobody even mentioned anything about it. We should not ever be ashamed to talk about this problem. Women are doing this much better than us. I guess it's because they have better support than men do. Here's an example of women addressing this image issue right away... BARBIES! They set out complaints against the company for making cookie-cutter Barbie dolls that have impossible standards, thin, long legs, small feet and small hands, etc. So because of that, they started making Barbie dolls in many different shapes and heights. www.google.com/amp/amp.usatoday.com/story/79449784/
