This is a recruitment ad from 1972 for "GARDA," which is the name of the police force of Ireland. Those of you who know about the history of heightism know that during this time, the Royal Mounted Canadian Police manual also profiled short men by saying "It was always the little guy that caused problems." Height requirements for police departments were extremely common back then. In one way, this excluded most women by default. On the topic of profiling though, I guarantee the Canadian police manual wasn't the only instance of profiling. People will tell us that heightism isn't real because we aren't targeted in the way black people are by police, but it is an objective fact that at least one official manual profiled short men to the degree that they put it in print. Since that's the case, it would stand to reason that if we have police departments that exclude short men on top of ones that actively target short men by profiling them, what do you think the result would be if we looked into arrest files of short suspects? I guarantee that it wouldn't be a pretty picture, but no one cares enough about the plight of short men to study these issues. We already know that Implicit Association Tests continually reveal that everyone has a bias against short men, including short men, and police are no different than the rest of the population in this regard, especially if their department excludes short men and especially if they explicitly profile short men. It's time for short men to start waking-up. This nonsense has gone on long enough.
