Happy new decade to you as well! I'm glad you posted this because the whole "You're the only one who cares about your height" talking point is one of the more annoying, poorly thought-out rebuttals that we endlessly encounter. First off, this talking point is obviously false because the person who is trying to shut you down with that particular talking point cares about your height, or, they wouldn't be trying to shut you down for discussing it. If they didn't care, they'd probably ignore you, they would get bored with the topic and not listen to you, or, they'd just agree with you so you'd shut-up. The fact that they're trying to force you to stop talking about means that they care deeply about your height, thus, the premise of the talking point fails immediately.
Also, if no one cared about height, tallness wouldn't be the most preferred physical male trait in dating, most sports, and it wouldn't be the most preferred physical trait in terms of assumed leadership potential, courage, and leadership ability.
If no one cared about height, there wouldn't be a litany of widely-believed negative stereotypes about short men. You can't have a negative stereotype about a trait that no one cares about, and you can't have debunked beliefs about Napoleon Complex that people believe are backed by science. You couldn't convince people that there is a complex relating to people whose eyebrows that have a barely-noticeable different color than the hair on their head because that's a trait no one really cares about. On the other hand, an alarming amount of the population believes in the existence of Napoleon Complex because they care deeply about a man's height.
If no one cared about height, tall men wouldn't be preferred for the "strong male lead" character in movies and shows, and short male actors would not be filmed to look taller than they actually are. This has been occurring back at-least as far as the days of Humphrey Bogart, and it couldn't have been a trend(if not a rule) for this long if no one cared about height. Also, if no one cared about height, there wouldn't be any Garmins like Kevin Hart who get applauded for portraying short men in a degrading light. As a matter of fact, self-deprecating jokes about height wouldn't even make sense if no one cared about height. The only reason self-deprecation about height is understood is because people do care a great deal about it.
Why is the "male taller norm" studied in social psychology circles if no one cares about height? Why has heightism been studied at-least since 1971 if no one cares about height?
If no one cares about height, why are there numerous terms used to degrade short men? Are terms such as shrimp, manlet, twerp, pipsqueak, midget, shorty, hobbit, oompa loompa, leprechaun, used hatefully toward short men evidence that no one cares about height?
Since athletes and celebrities are always submitted as proof that no one cares about height, why do guys like Prince and Jose Altuve tell stories about how heightism has affected their careers? Why did Tarik Cohen's height get mocked by the New Orleans Saints players, and why did Matt Miazga mock another player's height? How can shortness be treated as an insult if no one cares about it? In order to be an insult, a trait has to be looked upon negatively.
What about all of the examples we've covered where short boys have committed suicide after bullying they received because they were short? Are we to believe that taller kids who bully short kids don't care about height?
Then, of course, there's the substantial amount of scientific evidence showing that tall men are promoted more, make more money, and are far overrepresented among CEOs. Of course, people who use the "no one cares about your height" talking point aren't going to let scientific evidence get in the way of their biases, but why would this evidence exist if height was a trait no one cared about?
Basically, anyone who makes the claim that no one cares about height needs to be banned from participating in heightism discussions, but they aren't because they're defending the status-quo; And that status-quo cares deeply about height. If no one cared about height, no one would lose anything by short men who discuss heightism, but being that tall men stand to lose a great deal if heightism is ever taken seriously, all of these Garmins, average height loudmouths, women who worship tall men, and tall men themselves all unify in shutting down these conversations because THEY care deeply about height. Them saying that no one cares about height is projection at its finest.
