https://www.reddit.com/r/short/comments/5xetmc/i_legit_thought_this_was_funny_im_56_by_the_way/I'm actually only posting this to elaborate on the point GeoffreyArnold made: "I've never seen something "funny" posted here that doesn't degrade short men in some way. I wonder if there is any height related humor that doesn't degrade short men? It must exist. But you wouldn't see it posted on /r/short. I also just realize that I've never seen humor on /r/tall which degrades tall men. I'm sure humor exists that degrades tall men...but you wouldn't see it on /r/tall to "lighten the mood".
Of course, someone else tried to allude to how tall people post pictures about showerheads and other super original jokes. Here's the thing: there's no implied inferiority in any of that. A showerhead is not disrespecting them or refusing to take them seriously. A basketball joke, while old, is not an insult. In the first post I linked, the joke is that they don't take short men seriously. When people post the old " hand on short person's forehead" routine or something similar, the implication is that they'll beat your short ass if you step out of line. In this one, the joke is that short men are unattractive. In this hilarious one, the joke is that you're a bitch and not a warrior if women tower over you. Notice how the focus of the joke is always on the short man. I'll just end this point by saying that in our society, not taking women seriously is not considered a joke. Also note how most "short jokes" are usually "short men jokes." On the topic of "Garmins," it's very rare to find one that doesn't make short men seem lamer once the joke is over. Is there any self-deprecating short man who makes short men seem more powerful, sexier, etc. once his routine is done? It must be rare because I can't name one.

It's very rare, the only place i've seen EVER when a tall man is degraded is the misc where tall people are portrayed and called "lanklets", but even then, they aren't being infantilized or consistently stigmatized like garmins, they are just usually told to stop complaining, but that is even more rare than a blue moon, because it's always short men who are told to put on a face and just accept heightism. The joke is always short men, and once in a while, if you accept your position society might just scrutinize short women and take the focus off of short men, but even then short men are seen as a joke and garmin after garmin just keep the gag going.

I believe the "lanklet" thing is just a desperate attempt to get one back at them. Many of the guys who use that term would still admit they view taller as better. There's a reason why the "manlet" slur is so much more popular and came about first. I remember a time when it was only used on 4chan and bodybuilding forums. Whenever somebody used it elsewhere, they'd be treated like a weirdo. Now however, I see it everywhere in generic places like video game message boards, music video comments, subreddits like "videos" or "AskReddit." This is more and more normalized with the Internet generation, and the Garmins help enable it. Imagine being born nowadays. The moment you're old enough to peek around the Internet, this is the kind of shit one sees about short men.

I also think it's just an attempt of retribution directed at tall people, I just couldn't explain that in my original comment at the time. Like you said, it obviously isn't well known because the manlet slurr is already taking its place. I also agreed about the garmins enabling any joke or the manlet slurr. Remember the 20/20 episode where kids described short men as "dumb, yucky, and having no friends" in the study conducted by the yale psychologists? That was our first example of just how early kids learn that short men are considered inferior because of how early you alluded to they can acess the internet, and how pervasive this is.

People think using children is a good way to gauge things since they're supposed to be less tainted, but I recall my elementary school showing us Shrek when I was younger. Just from something like this, short men are shown in a bad light, and these kids will remember that (whether consciously or subconsciously).
