The title is in reference to people believing a man is shorter because they, as well as the media want to associate short with bad. First off, people want to believe napoleon was short when he was average or even slightly above for his time. But of course, almost no one outside of this forum considers that, because they want to buy into shorter=worse character, and believe it makes their hatred of short men more "justified".
Many articles, especially from thedailymail and the regular heightist sources, want to label Hitler as a dictator with short man syndrome at 5'8", which A.of course wasn't short for the time, and B. he was actually 5'9" according to medical records, so not actually short for anytime. But feelings over facts of course, because if being short doesn't explain the evil behavior than what does? /s
Last,Tom cruise who is 5'7-5'8, is seen as very short and diminuitive, and because of the jealousy of his success making him out to be shorter is an easy go-to, but a big excuse people have used is is "they attack him for his crazy views about "scientology" more than shorter male celebrities", yet plenty of comedians use his shortness as part of their routine and his height is the first thing that comes to mind when many people think of him. Even when he has achieved more in a week then they will in their live times.
. The big picture i'm trying to point out is that it's so obvious the media will make non short famous figures, and even an very infamous ones out to be much shorter than their height to demonize them, and people will eat it up all because they all can't resist associating shortness with evil. It's a very easy way they spread heightism and slander them, because once people are convinced they're short, they of course will blame all of the person's actions on height and make them as small possible. Because the further from average, the more laughable they are and the more their actions can be blamed on height in their minds.

The media is just really fucked up these days. They wouldn't dare post something like "overweight women have worse personalities than skinny women" or anything like that.
I think since society is more politically correct nowadays, the populace needs a group they can mock or vilify like the good old days, so the media usually chooses some form of male to be the scapegoat.

Everything you said is true. There is absolutely no amount of facts that can change their minds. This largely stems from the fact that no matter what side of any issue people are on, they think they are "fighting the good fight." It doesn't matter whether they're SJWs for the popular isms, whether they want to be the loudest ignoramuses possible under the auspices of "free speech," or, whether they want to shut all forms of social justice down as some sort of "the buck stops here" initiative to cling to the past; The truth is all sides think they're the ones fighting for the noble cause, and as a result, they feel they deserve outright disgust toward short men as a reward for their efforts. The SJWs thinks they have bigotry coupons that can be redeemed for guilt-free retribution enacted against short men, and the loudmouth blowhards who want no social justice for anyone use short men as an example of how hard they'll fight to be openly reprehensible without repercussions.
Sadly, heightism is one of the few unifying forces in society. Furthermore, it's a bigotry safe space for a society that is infested almost entirely with people who think they have all of the answers. Everyone already knows everything about everything, thus, people from all belief systems are resistant to new information. Then, there's the fact that the SJW sector espouses the concept of intersectionality, but totally ignores it when it comes to the fact that heightism affects the exact minority groups they're supposedly fighting for. They completely throw all of their efforts in the trash because of the absolute delight they draw from perpetuating hatred toward short men.
No subset of the population cares about the facts regarding heightism, nor, do they care that clinging so hard to fictions about Hitler, Napoleon, etc., to portray short men negatively is direct evidence that heightism is so deeply ingrained that absolutely no evidence is required to create a negative stereotype about short men, and not one iota of contrary evidence will be accepted to offset these stereotypes.
The evidence of their tomfoolery is glaringly evident for anyone who does not choose to ignore it, but currently, not enough people want to hold society accountable for its hypocrisy on this matter.
EDIT: After typing that out, I forgot to add my main point of this post, which is that you have a completely polarized society where both sides despise one another to the core, yet, they all put that hatred aside to unify in all-out hatred of short men. It doesn't stop there though because even the middle-grounders and "enlightened centrists" who think they hold a secret cache of knowledge that is unaccessible to the masses take a hardline stance in their support of the marginalization, mocking, and the will to use short men as target practice. Centrists all of a sudden became passionate partisans when it comes to ensuring short men don't receive any consideration. No matter what side, or non-side people are on, they are lockstep with treating short men as second-class citizens and they perpetuate the outright denial of any evidence that challenges the status-quo on this issue. I've never seen hypocrisy quite like the way people who base their entire ego, image, and even their life's work on challenging the status-quo, yet, are fully onboard with supporting the status-quo that praises tallers and marginalizes short men. On the other hand, those who are against all forms of feminism are eerily quiet when it comes to modern feminism's hypocritical hatred of short men. At-best, there are a few who call them hypocrites, but those few will never listen to any discussion about eradicating the torrent of deference granted to talls. Those who call these feminists out only do so in quick "gotcha" fashion to demean them as feminists, thus, the root of their heightism is never challenged.
Of course, this is never going to change until short men decide to stop supporting those who hate us. I have very serious doubts that this will happen, even in a minor way, any time within the next few decades, unless a major shift in the narrative comes out of nowhere. If you'd have asked me a decade ago, I would've never expected tallers and women to have changed their ways by 2020, but the fact that short men appear to have regressed in the past several years, even with all of the information that is out there, paints a crystal clear picture that we're not headed anywhere near the realm of progress. Truth has absolutely zero power when the potential beneficiaries of the truth work diligently to make themselves the world's worst allies. They'll run themselves ragged spouting empty platitudes, building a bubble of delusion while hiding in the shadows, and tapdancing around the issue, but when it comes time for them to put any effort toward demanding respect, they wither into a pillar of gelatinous nothingness.

I don't have much to add here, only that to me it seems that the media is probably a major driving force in changing the definition of "short", and by extension "tall". It is the media which is a major driving force, in general, in pushing certain ideals of masculinity and desirability. And, when the media - the media - is against us, what can we really do? Push for positive representations of short men in the media maybe, but such a thing is probably not going to be taken seriously by Hollywood producers and others. And other short people - short men - are willing to just sit there and watch as their dignity is taken from them and they are made into a laughingstock.

Speaking of Fauci: It's pretty obvious that there's no way for short men to escape the small man syndrome label, unless you're somehow the perfect centrist, to the point where there's an imprint on your ass due to how much fence sitting you do. Basically, if you have right-wing views (like Ben Shapiro), the tolerant left will circlejerk about how evil short men are. If you side with the left, the right will give you the same backlash. This is why it's hilarious how places like /r/short say stuff like "short men shouldn't confirm/perpetuate stereotypes." How could a short guy do that unless he just shuts up 100% of the time and never has an opinion on anything?
