For those who don't recognize the name, Dr Fauci has been the government's go-to communication source regarding the coronavirus pandemic. We're not discussing Fauci's role in government or as a medical professional though, we're discussing his status as a short man.
With that being said, I was planning on making a post tonight about how Fauci, who is obviously a short man, had to be on the verge of having his height discussed mockingly in the media because no short man goes unscathed. Well...it looks like the Wall St Journal beat me to it!

I can't open the article again to grab quotes because I've reached my article limit for the month, but the story is about how Fauci was the point guard of his high school basketball team. The article was mostly complimentary, but there were two different quotes about Fauci's height, which were based-on how strange it is for a short man to play basketball. Beyond the quotes themselves, let's just think about the fact that we're discussing Fauci's high school sports career. The man went to high school in the late 1950s, and here in 2020, we're discussing how funny it is that a short man played basketball decades ago. Think about this. The article is supposedly talking about his leadership prowess. If that's the case though, why didn't the article center on his medical career? It is beyond odd to use high school activities to prove a political figure's current prowess. For this reason, it is my belief that his high school basketball career was chosen as a subject largely because it offered an excuse to work his height into it. As of now, it's not politically favorable for Trump and others to attack Dr Fauci, but I guarantee you that once the spin machine does its job, Trump and others will have plenty to say about Fauci's height.
This article, while not heightist to a major degree, is essentially sounding the trumpets to let everyone know that attacks on Fauci's height are fair game, even though he is holding a prominent place in the cultural narrative right now. I was 100% convinced that his height would eventually be called into question, and this is more than likely just the beginning. If he makes any mistakes along the way, we'll certainly see more articles criticizing his height, and the intensity of those articles will increase. Also, as the covid19 issue gets politicized even more so, the slurs about Fauci's height will definitely intensify, especially considering that heightism has been a mainstay in the pre-election politics before this pandemic even began. Like I said, no short man goes unscathed, and this seemingly-mild critique of short men who play basketball will be what really gets the ball rolling as making sure short men, as a group, are shown exactly what will happen to them if they ever try to achieve positions of power.
