I know this is a really bad time because of the coronavirus spreading, but since people are staying home, they’re going to be on the internet, so... I decided I should make a community in reddit. I mean, I’m just gonna do my best by spreading heightism awareness. I don’t think I’m fit to be an activist, because I don’t have the correct words in my arsenal and experience, but I can do my best by trying to reach short men to come together, and hopefully some new activist can come around.
I’ve done a quick look at r/heightism, but noticed a bunch of dumb comments on asking if they’ve stopped growing and if they’re short or not. That’s not heightism, that’s just asking a question about human growth.
Then I looked at r/shortmen but it’s old and it’s just body positivity. No talk about the real issue.
Then I just found r/heightmatters, which is new, but it has incel vibes and memes. I do like incel posts because they tell the absolute truths, but since I’ve been lurking in incel subs, they’re considered almost garmining in my opinion. I can’t post in incel subs because I don’t belong there. I have a child and a fiancé.
Then there’s r/shortkings, but it’s also body positivity thing. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn’t tackle heightism.
We all know how r/short is.
Now, I want to create a community and I need your help on the appropriate name for it. Will r/heightdiscrimination work? The other simpler names are taken. Any idea of a different name?
Once I get the new community set up, any advice on how to be a moderator on it?
My plan is to not allow any dumb “am I getting taller?” questions. No advice on how to get taller.
Ban any offensive name calling against short men, like manlet, midget, mog (mogging/mogged), gnome, etc.
Word like “tallfag” isn’t allowed, (or any incel terminology), etc.
No Casanova wannabes, no UFC/MMA badass fighter advices, no “dude, I know this one short guy who slays”, and no tall height bragging.
Not sure about the dating posts. I want this to tackle on heightism on all forms, not just dating. Once heightism is seen as something that’s wrong, short men will get better paying jobs, more job opportunities, so that will help make dating lifestyles easier for short men, I believe.
And no Uncle Tom, and garmining. Being a court jester isn’t allowed.
I want posts similar to this website. Honest, intellectual, civil discussions.
Again, how does r/heightdiscrimination sound?

I support this idea 100% and I think r/heightdiscrimination is a great name. I also believe that from an activist standpoint, you have more than adequate verbal skills to get the point across. We don't ask people to be expert writers etc anyway, we just ask them to represent productive ideas. I'm really excited to see your idea play-out, and I'll be sure to make some posts over there when I can. To the other short men who are lurking, this is the type of thing that we need to see happening more often. We need to take the initiative to create new spaces that discuss heightism, and we need to support one another when this occurs. Make it happen, man! I can't wait to see the results.

Awesome! Going to keep this reddit name then. I got the community set up. Now it has one new member, which is myself. I’m not gonna be posting much in it tomorrow and the next day because I’ve been packing in order to move to a new place this weekend. After I finish the move, I’ll start posting some stuff there and customize the sub. You’re more than welcome to be another moderator there if you want to. No hard feelings if you don’t!

I'd like to second HR's comments but with a caveat: Don't expect results. If you start this sub-reddit, you're going to have to delete some posts that do the usual garmining, 'Will I grow Taller', incel memes, etc., and when you do you will see that there's not going to be too many posters, however with all the posters here posting THERE, there might be more visibility for the kind of intellectualization that we do here. But as I said, don't expect results, because if you go in too positive, you'll be in for a let down. Just let nature take its course. Yeah, I’m gonna be in for a letdown. It’ll probably be dead and I’ll be the the only one who’s mostly posting there for a while. At least, it’ll be easier to post pictures and videos. Shortcels wasn’t as good as I’d like, because they continuously posted these doomer and pepe a lot. Lots of reposts of old material. It just wasn’t creative. The thing I don’t like is how they used “back2schoolcel” student as a meme. That was just wrong. He did nothing wrong to warrant such treatment. It was just a picture of him standing on a staircase. I’m convinced a bunch of tallers were larping as short men as excuse to mock short men in that sub.

But as I said, don't expect results, because if you go in too positive, you'll be in for a let down. Just let nature take its course. Not expecting results is definitely of paramount importance when starting a heightism forum(or discussing heightism in general.) Like we've always discussed, no form of social progress can occur before society is ready to allow it to take place. The prejudices of the masses will always prosper over the merit of the minority. Being that short men are nowhere even close to ready to speak for themselves, results are not going to arrive any time in the foreseeable future. However, if we just give-up because we can't expect immediate positive results, we will never have positive results. Our efforts have made more people than ever aware of heightism. We have a few other minor victories, such as more people are aware of the way fat women are protected(and even celebrated in some cases) while short men are considered pariahs and whipping boys. There are other men's venues that have used things we've done to illustrate double standards we've exposed. There are people who will warn hateful women that "one of those heightism pages will hunt you down" if they make a heightist post, and there are a few other moral victories here-and-there. However, none of that has done anything to slow down the spread of heightism as a whole. For now though, we need to keep just chugging along and collecting minor victories until they all coalesce into a force to be reckoned with. Results don't come easy, and the cavalry isn't arriving at any time in the near future, so we need to just keep speaking the truth with the hopes that we might collect an ally or two here-and-there. This is seriously where we are at this point of time. It's not the most ideal position to be in, but it's truly where we are now, so we need to know this every time we start a new project.

You sound like you can articulate heightism well , understand it better than most people and have thought this out, this is a great idea. Be prepared for an influx the whole 9 yards of non-short people policing the community, women trying to infest the community with uplifting anecdotal evidence of their short boyfriends or "misogyny", garmins, overt heightists that use the 2 m-words associated with height, concern trolling (pretending to care but trying to control the narrative of a community) and of course celebrity comparison examples that you will have to nip in the bud, and like you said, shortcel members need to tone down the incel lingo to a great degree because it isn't conducive, but many of them are extremely red-pilled and aren't so scared about calling out tall man so they could potentially make great allies. You will have to put your foot down quite a bit and be banning a lot of people to meet the criteria of a good heightism discussion platform, and short men as we all know aren't ready for this community, so you'll get a ton of silence and lack of activity at first, but the people who do belong will eventually show up if it's successful. Another thing, more people than ever are aware of the double standards of weight vs height, and i've seen that called out very often on reddit and a lot of other platforms, so I hope we can see a forum that atleast somewhat plays out like this one, maybe with more posters online if it snowballs. edit: I found an introduction post made that listed a plethora of great heightism point, the user may not be around or banned, but I personally thought it was a really good take on how heightism plays out online and a lot of points are what you can expect if the community ever gets big , it's too long to post here heightismhub.freeforums.net/thread/325/observations-heightism-guest.

Also, i'm not accusing you of doing this, but it gets forgotten by, don't exclude people above 5'8" from joining if they're privy to heightism and don't cause the typical problems. A lot of people like to gatekeep average heighted men (like r/short and even on here rarely) but many men around that height are actually more aware and are more inclined to talk about heightism because they won't get labeled as much and don't face the extreme of it level men under 5'6" do, making them more willing to discuss the topic.

FYI- Valorzeal already has the subreddit up! He has already made a post disclosing no-nonsense rules that set the template for it to be a successful subreddit. All he needs are participants, and this thing will be off and running! Every time a new heightism blog, forum, video, etc is posted, I always hope that it's so successful that it drives me out of business by making all of my anti-heightism ventures obsolete. This subreddit could very well be the next great resource and sounding board for us, so everyone who reads this needs to do what they can to get it moving. www.reddit.com/r/Heightdiscrimination/

I was checking in our new sub’s traffic stats and noticed we get around 200 page views there. Is that good amount of numbers for potential subscribers or is it too low? It’s starting to irk me a little when I have to post more content there than other members. I don’t mind posting new content, but I find it odd when only charismatholic and I are mostly posting so much content there.
Maybe I’m just an impatient person, but it’s starting to feel frustrating. Am I experiencing what heighismreport and Joe SFTS have been experiencing for years? I mean, fuck, man.

Lol. I get it. I see it now.
I’ll keep posting content no matter what, just saying how there is so much silence among the short and I just find it kinda odd. Makes sense now they’re so busy with feel good bs and garmin behavior just so they can get tallers’ leftover crumbs of privilege.
I’ll treat my postings as part of my lifestyle, because as long as I’m short for the rest of my life, heightism will stick around like gum on my shoe like it’s a massive nuisance that’ll never go away.

Hey. I think by now, it is probably no secret that I found out about r/heightdiscrimination by lurking on this forum. You can thank mike5ft4 - he's the one who, for whatever reason, posted the link to supportfortheshort.org on r/short.
Actually, I myself have been wondering how we can draw more attention to r/heightdiscrimination. So far, I've been playing the long game, posting whatever I can, when I can in case someone would happen to click on my profile and see where I'm posting, maybe themselves being intrigued by what I'm posting and where and maybe joining it. However, I think the issue is that people just don't know that the subreddit exists. I do not know whether advertising the subreddit's existence on the current mainstream height circles would be the best idea, though.

The real pain for me right now is setting up the sidebar and add category flairs in the menu section. Heightism Report said the viewers will actually check the sidebars to learn more about heightism, so I’m trying to set that up. I gotta ask around on reddit on how to set that up. I feel stupid for asking this, but what are mainstream height circles?

I feel stupid for asking this, but what are mainstream height circles? I should’ve been more clear with that last bit. By “mainstream height circles” I mean places such as r/short (as if they’d allow an ad for a sub like ours), r/tall (not happening) etc. The ones that currently have all the members. Thanks for taking the initiative to create a subreddit, though. Prior to the creation of r/heightdiscrimination, the current subs for short people were either overly censorious (r/short) or overly focused on “positivity” (r/shortkings), or conversely were just fronts for incels (r/shortcels). In all cases they’re mostly focused on dating, when heightism is about so much more than that.

Yeah I’m honestly afraid to witness how they’ll react to our new sub. They’re the worst subs to turn to, but any sub other than ours will still be bad. Also, I have a strong feeling r/tall and r/short members did stop by our sub sometime before, but decided to say nothing.
About the traffic that we get, we still get about 200 page views a day. That is a LOT of page views, in my opinion. We get about 20 to 30 uniques a day, though, and I dunno what uniques mean. Total page views we got in the last 7 days is about 2,000. On April 18th, we got 437 page views for some reason, and that’s the highest page views we got in one day.
I came up with idea that if we see any comment on other subs that are being discriminated against for their stature, then we can share our new sub to them.
I tried to share the sub with some other members privately, but they said nothing. So, I dunno.

I tried to share the sub with some other members privately, but they said nothing. So, I dunno. Two-hundred page views a day is about what my website gets. As I said before, don't expect too much. As a matter of fact, don't expect anything, because you'll become disappointed very rapidly if you have any expectations. Any serious discussion of this topic is severely limited at this time. This is the way that it's been going back almost two decades. We have numerous enemies - The Media, deluded short men, short men in denial, short garmins, little tough guys and tough guy wannabes, short women (who have multiple "outs"), average-heighted men, Tall men, and mostly everyone else. This current "pandemic" is no help either, as people start to prioritize what is important in their lives, and when something like this comes along, they tend to put other things aside. This is a marathon NOT a sprint. You're speaking the absolute truth. I'll repeat the same mantra I've been repeating several years now. We can't be worried about immediate results when it comes to heightism; We merely need to worry about setting the template for when(and if) short men ever decide that enough is enough and want to make a serious attempt to change things for the better. We're not going to get the results we want any time in the near future. Our job is to keep collecting evidence and to keep having these types of conversations with the hopes that we make an occasional ally who sticks around for the long run. With so many forces working against us, in addition to short men being absolute absentees when it comes to providing support, results are not even possible at this point in time. As a matter of fact, part of our job is to let the historical record reflect that short men had absolutely zero interest in advancing their station in life. We just have to keep documenting things as they occur now, and hope that we eventually start to tip the scales in our favor. We've seen too many short men come in guns ablazing, only to disappear once they see that we aren't going to receive immediate results. Nothing that's happening now is anything new. We're still caught in the same unproductive cycle we were caught in two decades ago.
