There is a well known term (on reddit in particular) called "concern trolling" that most of reddit will see through and rightfully shut down instantly, while conversely is accepted with open arms by r/short and even encouraged by the usual suspects. Those fake positive posts complaining about the sub, its members and all of the content in its entirety are doing just that. I'm making this post to add an alternative definition to these dime a dozen incessantly posts whining about how r/short should change to make said poster feel welcome. What is concern trolling and how is it relevant to r/short?Concern trolling is basically a concoction of gas-lighting, victim blaming,Sometimes the occasional moving of goalposts and strawmen, in addition to many other fallacious arguments to control the narrative of a group (what a success it's been). Here's a synopsis that i'm sure will ring a bell with what we see these pests try to push onto r/short very succinctly defined by a reddit poster on r/ OutOfTheLoop.
www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/292a5a/what_is_concern_trolling_and_why_do_people_get/A concern troll is a false flag pseudonym created by a user whose actual point of view is opposed to the one that the troll claims to hold. The concern troll posts in Web forums devoted to its declared point of view and attempts to sway the group's actions or opinions while claiming to share their goals, but with professed "concerns". The goal is to sow fear, uncertainty and doubt within the group.
Here's another outstanding definition in the same thread.
To "Concern troll" is to pretend to be on the side of people you disagree with, and try to undermine their arguments with "concerns". This effectively derails the discussion into a debate about the protocol of addressing the problem, rather than the problem itself. This kind of misdirection is common in hotly political subreddits that already ban users for overtly disagreeing or trolling.
So as we can see, the concern troll tends to use the arguments aformentioned in my first paragraph, in addition to arguing semantics, using copious amounts of faux-positivity to put on a facade of caring about the forum, and the endgame of the concern troll is misdirect discussions in an elaborate manner while they make themselves look seemingly inculpable. Feel free to point out examples on how you see this playing out in heightism discussions.
