This video is at least 2 1/2 years old. It depicts Floyd Mayweather and Anthony Joshua greeting fans in London. For people who aren't Boxing fans, Mayweather has held titles in FIVE weight classes including welterweight and retired undefeated at 50-0. Certainly one of the best welterweights of all-time. Mayweather is 5'7". The other guy - Anthony Joshua - is currently the WBA, IBF, and WBO Champion. Joshua is 6'6". It is quite obvious by looking at the greetings both men received, who they gravitated to for the most part - and that was Joshua. In the beginning, a series of women didn't seem to even care that Mayweather existed, and also some of the men - even one particular short guy. But some of the women were especially interested in Joshua to the exclusion of Mayweather. One or two little kids were also especially interested in the Big Man to the exclusion of the the far shorter Mayweather. After a few of these dis's Mayweather looked like he was ready to pack up and leave. I will admit that it did pick up for him in the middle and towards the end, but the general impression was that the people were a good deal more interested in Joshua. There were some stupid comments (a good number of stupid comments as there usually is on youtube under any video) blaming this on Mayweather's "attitude" or some other bullshit, but the bottom line is that this is a prime example of subliminal or sub-conscious heightism. People seem to be mostly attracted to that which is Big or Tall. Most of these people were not die-hard boxing fans, they just gravitate towards Big men. This is the 800 lb. gorilla in the room. Tall men are viewed as more intelligent, credible, capable, masculine, protecting, skillful, etc. And this is an innocuous example. No one was calling Mayweather shrimp, runt, pipsqueak or anything else. This is why short men get defensive in the presence of Tall men, because they know what is coming. When the big man arrives, the short man no longer exists. And make sure you understand me here, it is no crime to get defensive or "insecure", as people like to say. This bias is so obvious that anyone with half a brain should be able to see it. This video is a good example of the perks tall men get in the World. When a man is 6'6" like Joshua, the perks are greater than for just average-tall men. This is the height hierarchy in action. This video is a wonderful example of the height hierarchy. But this is only a small piece of it. If a 5-Time World Boxing Champion, an undefeated one, and one of the greatest welterweights of all-time can get ignored like this, what the Hell do some idiots think the rest of us get in the average work-a-day world? These dis's are just the beginning, just a small part of the total heightism picture. You could be the Greatest this or the greatest that, but in the minds of the masses YOU'RE STILL SHORT. Just a little more evidence that Heightism is the most unrecognized AND one of the most prevalent prejudices in this world.
