At my office, we recently hired someone who has turned out to be a Garmin. This became really noticeable last week. We had a day that was particularly windy, and he was late due to (legitimate) public transportation issues. That started him on jokes about how he was worried that he was going to be blown away for being so little. He also made jokes about how he might have trouble typing on the keyboard on his computer due to his small hands. I also know that his height is 5'2" because he has brought it up several times as part of various jokes and other commentary he has made about himself. I will spare all of you more details, but it's like this guy is trying to be a real life Garmin at maximum cringe. And when he does this, he almost literally sounds like Garmin from the Portlandia sketch.
So far no one at my office has taken this bait. I have worked at this job for a year and a half. We have short, tall, and average height people. No one has ever talked about height (as far as I know) even with the Garmin constantly bringing up his height/size. Nobody has made fun of the Garmin's height, and anytime the Garmin has brought up his height/size it has more or less been ignored. (i.e. On the windy day, the response to the Garmin were things like, "Yeah, I was lucky there weren't any downed trees on my way to work" and other neutral commentary.) I'm hoping that the Garmin doesn't try to step up his Garminess to get a response from my coworkers and me.

That guy sounds like a socially-incompetent cringehouse. The poor, self-defeating fool doesn't have a chance of ever being taken seriously at anything. He's alienating his co-workers by constantly bringing-up his height. People are already uncomfortable around short men, which is of course heightist, but he's not doing himself any favors by constantly rubbing their faces in the discomfort that comes from being around short men in a heightist society. They're all ignoring him because they see him as a "little pest" who is trying to garner attention. I've told numerous self-deprecating short men that they don't do themselves any favors by being a whipping boy, but they just can't let go of the heightist notion that they have to "show that their height doesn't bother them" by offering themselves as an empty can for others to kick around. As everyone knows, heightism causes people to ignore short men and not take them seriously, thus, short men who act in this manner are treated like over-exuberant children who go out of their way to impress adults while exclaiming "LOOK WHAT I CAN DO" the entire time.

I don’t understand garmins like that. Why degrade yourself when you know it would do you no favors? I just don’t get it.
Maybe he’s trying to copy Kevin Hart. Who knows?

I can't say for sure since I haven't talked to anyone about it, but I think there may already be a couple of people trying to avoid him because of his "little pest attention demanding" ways. We went a few days without the Garmin bringing up his size then he makes a comment about his small hands typing on a keyboard. The Garmin just won't stop. That is when I suspect that a couple of people started avoiding him.
I also don't think it helps that his voice sounds exactly like the voice of Garmin from the Portlandia sketch. He is starting with a deficit in his interactions with other people due to being short, but if he just acted normal, I think he would be fine.
