This is an extremely well-articulated and well-researched article about heightism. The bonus, is that it was written by a short woman. This article acts as not only a primer for those who are new to the concept of heightism, but it offers the playbook on how short women can be more supportive of short men. As a bonus, it indirectly shows that often when women experience heightism, it gets lumped in with sexism. Laura didn't explicitly state this, but she showed how tall women and short women receive different treatment. Back when the article was first written, I emailed her to congratulate her on doing such an excellent job with this topic, and she told me that the eye-opener for her was when a short male she knows who is immensely talented, well-spoken, and gifted in many ways, gets mocked, dismissed, ridiculed, and ignored by others. After that, she opened her ears and eyes and was appalled at how much evidence there is illustrating society's contempt for short males. This is how it should be folks. First listen, then learn, then do your best to right society's wrongs. www.lauragrey.com/?tag=heightism

I haven't read this before, so thank you for sharing. This sounds cynical, but I'm always extremely amazed and in disbelief when someone who isn't a short man defends short men, because even other short guys don't have the courage/empathy/intellect to say something like this. The fact that she put time and effort into writing this, complete with sources, is very appreciated.
For example, bringing up how height played a part in the Rwandan Genocide, or linking the studies that disprove the Napoleon Complex, shows good knowledge on the subject, which is more than we can say for most people. We all know how everybody's an expert on short men, but how many actually do their research?

It is most certainly amazing to finally see an expert with actual expertise, instead of just folk wisdom and unchecked bias.
I also don't think you're cynical for being amazed when someone speaks in-favor of short men. You're actually being realistic. Like you said, short men don't even speak for themselves. We're not anywhere close to being able to expect an article like Laura's from most short men because most of them wont even speak competently in their own defense, even behind the anonymity of the internet.
It's a beautiful thing when short men do come forward though, and it's most definitely a pleasant surprise when someone who isn't a short man proves that they have actually listened to our concerns and did the necessary work to articulate our plight in a competent manner. If we had a few dozen Laura Greys in the world, we just might make some progress.

It's not wrong at all to be cynical, because usually when a short women is using a short man in her life as an example, it's to discredit and trivialize heightism "I know a confident short men who", so you were absolutely right to be cynical, especially because usually the inverse happens, and as a silencing tactic, rather than to educate people on heightism and stereotypes and even knowing that Alfred Adler coined the term, like you said who actually understands heightism, and usually bringing a short man into heightism discussions is a very specific silencing tactic, but it was astonishingly to shed light on heightism, because it was a short man who was affected rather than "a confident short man who doesn't have any issues".
