After church on Sunday I made the requisite stop at Walmart to pick up a rotisserie chicken for Sunday lunch. And I saw half the town including a few of my clients.
This particular client is an older woman several inches taller than me, and as she jumped out of her car she called my name across the parking lot, followed with "oh you tiny, tiny little man!"
Someone who isn't even a supervisor makes a blatant heightist comment, and the dumbass can't see what's wrong already.
Now I could take that as an insult. Not only is she commenting on my diminutive height, but I think she's doing so using words that most here would consider deeply insulting.
No shit, garmin holmes.
Tiny? Little? At least she called me a man.
So the heightist comment is ok because she still called him a man, because i'm sure a weight comment would be ok if a woman was still referred to by her gender... Do short people really have this low of a tolerance thershold?
As I crawled back into my Prius I could feel my ego deflate, making a small car into which I already fit comfortably feel even bigger.
Oh wait, no, that's a load of crap.
Notice The stockholm syndrome and cognitive dissonance, typical garmin tactics.
She lept out of her car, gave me a hug, and while she did call me a tiny, tiny little man, it was in the context of my having lost 85 pounds and 20" from my waist. It was a compliment and we both knew it. Context matters.
Right, because she obviously wasn't denigrating him in a way she wouldn't to women, Jews and blacks, and being called little as a man has a positive connotation, like being called big as a woman does?
I felt very empowered and quite good.
This one isn't even worthy of addressing
After a lot of hard work it can truly be said that I AM a tiny, tiny little man.
His height clearly isn't the only thing that is "little", for not understanding why being called a little(2 times) man is negative, by a random client, not even a superior!
